Ke Kōmike Kumulāʻau

Ke Kōmike Kumulāʻau, or, The Tree Committee, is a kōmike mau, or standing committee, that is open to all Mānoa Community Gardens members, and discusses all tree-related garden matters. It has no authority, other than that specifically assigned through agreement at official Mānoa Community Gardens meetings. Otherwise, it acts in an advisory capacity only.

A Brief History

The current manifestation of a committee that discusses trees related to the Mānoa Community Gardens began maybe two Garden Meetings ago in some month or other (May 2018?). Such a nice committee, it is, with many varied people who like to discuss trees and other plants that maybe are not trees but kind of are for the purposes of the Mānoa Community Gardens rules that pertain to “trees”.

The committee's first task was finding an expert speaker to come (and speak), and to lay the groundwork for a garden-wide discussion (about trees). The committee was so successful that so many more people decided that they, too, wanted to be committee members. Thus was born this fantastic wiki that holds our shared knowledge.

Current Responsibilities

During the June 2018 meeting, it was agreed that the committee would develop guidelines determining what was considered a “tree” for the purposes of the Mānoa Community Gardens. These guidelines only pertain to plants within the plots of the Mānoa Community Gardens.

Future Projects

Community orchard? Whose responsibility the trees that border the gardens? Knowledge sharing activities?
