If a group of “WE” was to attempt to create its ideal world, and this was a world in which all “INDIVIDUALS” had the ability to manipulate their world to their will, what might it look like
? This thought path was prompted by that feeling that there are indeed powerful forces acting in this world and that some of them might very well be "
good." Anyway, what if I (or we) was living a world where I was tapped into some computer program and there were entities outside of this program manipulating it (or, of course, other entities inside computer programs manipulating it). Fact is, I am tired of this world (as is), beautiful beaches and majestic mountains and all, and the only thing that has excited me of late (outside of mind-altering drugs like coffee and eggplant) is my experimentations with the computer I live with (and with whom I am at this very moment collaborating with to bring you these words
[sidenote]). So yeah, you know, I've been jumping into the world of web design, databasing, animation, audio manipulation—all open source, you know—and the possibilities seem endless. Okay, we're losing sight of that initial thought train.
Quick give me a hand. Oh it's huge, you want me to help you, of course. Look it's working. Computers. Hmmm. What if “WE” did design a world that we could “CONTROL”. Look at all of the great options. Much better than boring old reality. Tastes great, less filling. Okay. now let's use a common mainstream representation of this. Let's say, like in the Hollywood blockbuster “The Matrix,” we were a group of freedom fighters (as opposed to that band of terrorists in the relatively more alternative stream comic book “The Invisibles”) and we wanted to break out of this system. Would this be desirable for any reason other than some built-in human bio-chemical-social desire for “freedom” (or, for that matter, any consideration of material realities, like, the “real world” is paradise, and the computer world is a grey monotonous blah type place)? Ok, back to the powerful forces. We've all felt them,
hmmm.....All right. Let's play in this reality field for a bit. This is an applicable technique, gleaned from the House on Algon, where regardless of its stability in time and space, a logical world based on faulty premises of fact can, in fact, be lived in (The workings of this technique, I do not know, whether based on force or consciousness or what, I haven't seen the man page for it. This is one instance where the pot-head world is quite lacking relative to the open-source world. Of course, the theoretical existence of this technique was first mapped by me in that little red striped notebook in a quasi-dialog with a friend of mine.). So, in case you missed it, we're going to live as if this possibility were real. You know, the metaphor brought on by the feeling that there are forces trying to communicate with me, through alternate channels. Voices in my head, so to speak, except that they tend to communicate through the physical make-up of reality coupled with a selective focus of vision (read: consciousness). Okay, today's thought isn't quite coming together. But, hey, we're just getting started, right?
--musical interlude-- So, this will be an attempt to communicate ideas while mapping the thought process that brought me to them. Obviously, my ability to multi-task is not at the level I'd like it to be. Maybe you've got some suggestions, like pipelining or something. Have a nice day. -JAKE
